Neurolytic block

The injection of a chemical agent to cause destruction and consequent prolonged interruption of peripheral somatic or sympathetic nerves, or in some cases, the neuraxis.

Neuropathic pain

Pain arising from abnormalities within the central or peripheral nervous system, associated with injury, damage or dysfunction of the nervous system. Examples include postherpetic neuralgia, complex regional pain syndrome and diabetic neuropathy.

Nociceptive pain

Pain resulting from actual or potential tissue damage; pain resulting from the ongoing activation of primary afferent neurons by noxious stimuli.
